There Really is an Easy Way to Help Your Migraines!

happy man There Really is an Easy Way to Help Your Migraines!

A few weeks back I posted about my hubby’s migraine attacks.

It’s been a long hard road for 22 years but we think we’ve found something that gives us a light at the end of the tunnel!

You see, not only have the attacks been hard but trying to find relief has been even harder. So hard, in fact, that he’s become addicted to the over-the-counter (OTC) drugs! And when he tries to stop them, or even REDUCE them, the headaches come back worse than ever in clusters.

I want to say something that I hope helps someone reading this — because there is someone who needs to hear this:

Abuse of any drug is still drug abuse.

It doesn’t matter if it’s OTC, doctor prescribed, or illegal. Too much of something is still too much and will cause a reaction in the body.

As I relayed in the previous article, he’s been my guinea pig for every remedy I could find. We changed our entire lives in the pursuit of relief.

At 40, the doctors told him he’d be dead in 10 years if he didn’t change his life. At that time we owned a very successful, thriving business that was very deadline oriented.  So, heeding the doctors prognosis, we closed our business as soon as it was feasible for our family, but it took 5 years. We retired to FL where the headaches followed. The only thing that changed was that we had a whole new set of doctors with another battery of tests that gave the same result — no answer.

Fast forward another 6 years and we find ourselves in Texas. And the headaches tagged along, yet again.

Now the only constant factor is ME. That was concerning me!

In my quest to find (or build) another business for us, I spent a lot of time online. During that time I heard about Young Living Essential Oils. I’ve always been attracted to naturals so I was intrigued. These are pure therapeutic grade oils — not the kind you use to perfume soaps and candles. 90% of todays medicines are plant based but they have strived to find synthetic ways to manufacture them. Sounds bass-ackwards to me icon smile There Really is an Easy Way to Help Your Migraines!

After reading many testimonials, I decided to sign up as a distributor. I could have signed up as a preferred customer (and still receive the same 24% discount as a distributor gets) but I knew that, if it worked, I wanted to shout about it. I figured that if I could get him some pain relief he could handle the noise!

A little background on his daily regimen before using oils:

  • 6 to 8 OTC pills per day, with at least 2 Imitrex (at $23 each for generic brand) per week.
  • Constant heartburn that did not go away
  • Bloating
  • Continual medicated ‘fog’
  • Inflamed muscles in his neck and shoulders that no medication relieved

When I got my first set of introductory oils, we started right away with one oil blend called Panaway. I applied it to his shoulders and neck, right up into his brain stem area. Some folks apply it to their thumb pads as well with great success. I used about 6 drops because a little goes a long way. He began to feel better right away. We used that every few hours for the first few days.

A few days later I received my next order that contained another blend called M-grain. We would use one or the other several times a day, but layered these two when the pain was especially fierce.

You see, not only was he trying to relieve migraines, he was also detoxing from years of abuse of OTC medications, as well as battling cluster headaches from going off the OTC meds.

Another order brought us a roll-on blend of Deep Relief. This has become his go-to oil.

The great thing about these oils is that he can add more in a little while, or add another, because they are not drugs! He usually gives it 30 minutes to start to relieve pain, and adds more if it doesn’t do the job.

In 6 weeks of using the oils, he has had 6 pills. The headaches are not gone but the heartburn is gone, the bloat is gone, the fog is gone. He has taken less pills in 6 weeks than he used to take on a good day.

To recap, he uses these oils:

  • Deep Relief roll-on — this goes on his neck up into the base of his skull and on his shoulders and the inflamed nerves leading from his shoulders to his neck.
  • Panaway — this goes in the same area as the Deep Relief but only if the Deep Relief hasn’t relieved all the pain.
  • M-grain — he uses this one if the headache becomes full blown.

He uses these every few hours if he’s in pain and sometimes only twice a day. He always oils up after showering and before bed. He’s sleeping better now, too, because he can practically put the oils on his his sleep. With pills, he has to get up and eat something so he doesn’t get nauseous. He uses Stress Relief at least twice daily, and adds the other two as needed. The Panaway relaxes him so much when he layers it with M-grain that he only uses the two together if he isn’t going to be driving.

He still gets headaches but the oils relive the pain without pills most of the time. And now, without all the drugs in his bloodstream, a pill actually does it’s intended purpose if he has to go that route. I consider this a complete success!

Do you have constant pain? I hope this encourages you! You CAN find relief without opening another pill bottle!

We use herbal remedies whenever possible. I wonder what is available for migraines from our plant allies?

Hi Lorrie! Peppermint is awesome for headaches as well as muscle strains. A drop on each temple, on the thumb pads, and on the brain stem is a great dosage. My hubby gets many tension headaches from tight shoulder and neck muscles so we put it there too — but he tends towards migraines more than tension headaches. 90% of all today’s medicines are plant based and these oils are so beneficial. :-)

Thanks for sharing this. There are so many dangers to any drug and abusing it that it’s scary. Even the weaker OTC drugs can destroy the liver and other organs. Natural is definitely better and if the problem and not the symptoms are treated it’s even better.

Thanks for sharing this great article about migraine, Becky! It is indeed a lot helpful to me as I often have mild migraine attacks. I haven’t seen a doctor but symptoms say it’s migraine.

Panaway is an old favorite. I really need to stock up on this again as well as the M-grain…which I am not familair with. Adriaan could use this essential oil cocktail to help his migraines! Thank you for sharing!

I’ve been fortunate enough not to have encountered migraine attacks. Thank goodness that there are solutions though.

So happy to see another person enjoying the benefits of Essential Oils. We use them daily in our home and diffuse in our office for our patients. M-grain essential oil..helped my teen son after a horrible automobile accident…that combined with Chiropractic adjustments helped tremendously!:)

Love this testimony to the power of Mother Nature to cure. We’ve never used drugs in my family and are RARELY sick. Last time my 3 year old got a headache he asked me for his “medicine” – which made me smile since he was talking about peppermint oil!

My 2 year old granddaughter does the same thing! At bedtime and nap time she crawls into my lap and gives me her feet for lavender oil :-) and asks the same thing! ‘Mom-mom, I need my medicine. And so does Piglet!’
