We all know how the internet has changed our lives. While it’s awesome, it also makes getting information tough sometimes. I still like a real cookbook to hold in my hands so I decided to research the best ketogenic diet cookbooks because I’ll bet many of you do too.
Every bit of information in the world is at our fingertips and is expanding faster than we can imagine. We go online and get completely overwhelmed and go right down rabbit trails – or is that just me?
Somehow I doubt it 🙂
And then we watch puppy videos …

What is the Keto Diet?
Basically, Keto is a low carb – around 20 net carbs per day, moderate protein, high fat style of eating. Here is what 30 grams of carbs look like.
Keto differs from a regular low carb diet (such as the Atkins Diet) by restricting carbs at a low level for the duration of the weight loss portion rather than just during an induction period as well as the percentage of fat.
While a traditional low carb diet restricts carbs it does not restrict protein. Keto restricts both but replaces them with higher levels of good fats to provide satiety so you don’t feel like you are depriving yourself. For those of you who are gluten-free, an added benefit of Keto is that most recipes can fit into that lifestyle as well.

My Top 10 Best Ketogenic Diet Cookbooks
I love technology but on some things, I just balk at it. One of the ways I balk at technology is this: I must have a real cookbook with pages to turn. I simply must.
I’ve tried the whole cookbook-on-my-tablet scenario but I just can’t get into it.
HOWEVER – I do have some on my tablet right now. While I love real cookbooks, I hate wasting money even more.
I have a Kindle Unlimited membership and I always have the max number of books out at one time that I’m allowed to have. It’s a blessing — and a curse! My poor tablet is wheezing!
I see lots of Ketogenic diet cookbooks on Amazon and guess what? Tons of them are free to read on your device! Yay! But they’re on my device. Boo!!
Here’s the rub, folks:
Sometimes you get what you pay for.
But there is an up-side to this – you can evaluate the cookbook before you spend money on the actual physical book! That’s a blessing to me because I tend to be a book hoarder. I got my first Kindle 8 years ago and didn’t need the intervention after all.
So – I use my tablet to evaluate the content of the recipe and, if it works out, I buy the cookbook for the pictures. beautiful photos with the recipes just translate better into physical books, don’t you think?
Anyway, you’ll be able to see which ones you want to actually purchase for your kitchen. These are not in any special order – but they’ll be the 10 best Ketogenic Diet cookbooks I can come up with!
Now I’ll tell you the best Ketogenic diet cookbooks that are actually worth taking up space in your kitchen!
If you’ve looked around this dusty place (my blog) you’ll see that I LOVE Peace Love and Low Carb. Seriously. Love. Her. Her, of course, is Kyndra Holley.
I have to say this is one beautiful book! Every picture is totally drool-worthy and makes you want to make it all. Beautifully laid out and the nutritional information (calories/fat/protein/total carbs/fiber/net carbs) is at the bottom of every page – big and bright! You can’t miss it – it’s not hidden.
Kyndra doesn’t just give you a bunch of recipes – she gives you an entire how-to on Keto and meals plans plus awesome advice for eating out – exactly what you should order. She uses real food – not a lot of crazy ingredients – so you know it’s great nutrition.
I love her photo index – sometimes I may remember what the food looked like and have forgotten the name of the recipe – the photos are so handy!
Let’s keep this between us but she has a recipe for lasagne that doesn’t use vegetables as noodles – she makes keto noodles! (Never mind – you can tell!!)
I refer to this book by Leanne Vogel ALL THE TIME. It doesn’t even stay in the kitchen all the time – my office desk shares custody with the kitchen. This book has serious information – I’d say half the book is solid information about the variations and customizations of the Keto diet.
For instance, she’s an advocate of carb cycling for some people – that’s altering the balance of fat and carbs to add some good carbs in the evening to help balance your hormones. As a post-menopausal woman – and an individual – I have to keep up with what works for me and it’s entirely different than it was a decade ago.
At her website, Healthful Pursuit – she has a lot of information about using carb ups to aid in your weight loss – part of the customization of Keto. She also has The Keto Beginning and Fat Fueled – both very in-depth programs – or get them as a bundle to save some money. Weekly meal plans too!
As an aside, Leanne has several food sensitivities and she focuses on regaining health and healing as well as weight loss. If you’re dairy-free you’ll love this one!
So much more than a cookbook, Maria Emmerich’s Quick and Easy Ketogenic Cooking is a Keto primer for any step of your journey with this lifestyle of eating. She explains Keto in a way that won’t overwhelm you if you’re just starting and is easy to understand if you need a quick refresh. It has 30-day meal plans using the recipes in the book as well as great tutorials!
Here’s the thing – it’s easy but not all of the recipes will be on the table quickly. If you’re expecting all 30-minute or less to the table meal or a 5 Ingredients or less meals, this isn’t your book. Yes, there are many that fit that but you’ll also find crockpot recipes and a few that need several hours to complete or cool. Some are just quick and some are just easy – and some are both quick AND easy.
That said, it is still an excellent book to have in your arsenal and still fits in my Top 10 Best Ketogenic Diet Cookbooks.
One of my very favorite low carb blogs is All Day I Dream About Food – and her blog name isn’t far from the truth for me. Carolyn Ketchum has a gorgeous blog and an equally gorgeous cookbook – and it’s not her only one! She also has Easy Keto Dinners, Easy Keto Desserts, and Keto Soups and Stews (soon to release).
One of my favorite things about Carolyn’s books and the site is that she uses normal, low-carb ingredients – whole real foods that are easily locally-sourced. Her instructions are simple and easy to follow and exactly what you want out of a book with ‘Everyday’ in the title! She’s even included meal plans.
Just like her site, the photos are a feast for your eyes. I’d advise you to not look through this cookbook while you’re hungry. That would be the culinary equivalent to waterboarding! She even includes the items you need in your low-carb pantry and essential kitchen equipment you should have.
Do you have a friend on Keto? This is an awesome gift!
This Simply Keto cookbook from Suzanne Ryan is exactly that – simple. She started doing YouTube videos – recipes and tips – and on her site Keto Karma where she dispenses advice and encouragement as well, and it’s all led to her first cookbook. I adore this cookbook! It has a permanent place in my kitchen.
This is one of my very favorites – very easy recipes without a lot of obscure ingredients. There isn’t a lot of fluff in this book – she goes into basic Keto information. Especially in cookbooks, I’m fine with some info in the beginning but I don’t need a life story. I want the recipes. And, oh boy, what awesome recipes!
It’s beautiful and very well organized – and that’s a big plus for us folks who like organization!
Most people really miss their everyday favorites when they go Keto. Guess what? You don’t have to do that anymore!
Here is another Top 10 from Maria Emmerich of Maria Mind Body Health – yes, this is the second of her’s on our list. Trust me – this one deserves to be here too! These are your families favorite recipes made low-carb and healthy – and make it so much easier to stay on your plan. Not a lot of fancy or hard to get ingredients, these dishes will be easy to make and easier to eat. A list of tools and a pantry list is included as is a chart for substitutions for sweeteners.
Another thing I love about this cookbook is that each recipe has a Keto Meter – a gauge for low, medium, or high. Makes it easy to know what to pair with it!
There is nothing better than eating your favorite dishes, am I right? In Keto Made Easy the folks from Keto Connect, Megha Barot & Matt Gaedke, do just that. They make your favorite foods Keto-easy! Lots of tips, meal plans and fail-proof recipes – just what I need!
This makes a perfect Intro to Keto Cooking cookbook – few ingredients, easy to find, and tasty to boot! I especially love the picture index – I’ve seen a lot more cookbooks including those and they are awesome!
These folks have an AMAZING YouTube channel– go check them out. Look for their Keto Cheese Grits 🙂
In Keto Living Day-by-Day, Kristie Sullivan shows you the real-world approach to living Keto and gives you a daily guide for doing Keto YOUR way. (You did know there’s more than one way, right?)
I know I can have my day planned, my food in the fridge and then BAM. The Commodore wants to go out and I’m faced with a new challenge – overcoming the habits and desires of the old me. And I don’t always win. Kristie has real, practical advice for these social situations.
She helps you with meal planning in this book as well as budgeting advice for your shopping and stocking your pantry. Her recipes are simple (my favorite!) and easy to prepare, too.
More than advice and recipes, this book offers wisdom and inspiration from someone who’s been there done that.
Okay, the full title is Keto for Life: Look Better, Feel Better, and Watch the Weight Fall Off with 160+ Delicious High Fat Recipes but I only wanted to type it once 🙂
I guess this post is one big Fan Girl (Fan Geezer?) post because I adore Melissa Sevigny’s website I Breathe, I’m Hungry. And, of course, I am so I try not to breathe too heavily. (ba dump ump! Cha!!!) Seriously, though, this is one of the best ketogenic diet cookbooks I’ve found. I just love it!
ANYway … if you check out her blog you’ll have NO reservations about ordering this cookbook – which is more than a cookbook! Photos so lovely you might turn it into a coffee table book! She’s got meal plans and grocery lists with tips and tricks, prep lists – and the list goes on. Plus, her personality really shines through and makes you comfortable with her – like she’s an old friend – right away.
Easy and tasty recipes – without a lot of ‘how to do Keto’ – so if you don’t need that info, you don’t have to pass it by.
PS – if meatballs are your jam you MUST get this book right away!
I really wanted to avoid repeating authors but some of these authors are just too good! Here’s another from Kyndra Holley at Peace Love and Low Carb – and it’s all about tasty libations. That colors on the cover make me so happy! It’s so darn pretty.
How about a keto-friendly margarita or pina colada? YES!!!
Bar food – and even hangover cures – it’s got it all so you don’t have to feel deprived. Make it a party and invite your friends!
As with any of these cookbooks, do yourself a favor and check them out. Click on any book cover to go to Amazon to look inside and judge for yourself 🙂 I own most of these – and have drooled over the rest in a comfy chair at the bookstore – and can tell you that they are some of the best Ketogenic Diet cookbooks I’ve found!
