I love getting great deals but I don’t like crowds at all – so the obvious solution is to stay out of the store. I just love finding deals on food and Walmart is my go-to for food deals. I especially love Walmart grocery curbside pick up – and it’s free!!! What’s not to love with that?
It completely suits me – I can get the food I want and I can stay out of the store and away from temptation! Or am I the only one who is tempted when I go in that place? I think those carts have a GPS that steers them straight to the cookie aisle! Not so good if you’re eating Keto.

First – Walmart Grocery Curbside
This is at participating Walmarts so you won’t find it at every one of them. They sometimes have a special – if you use this link you may be able to get $10 off your first order. When I did my pick up last week (summer 2018) it was still valid but I’m not sure if it’s limited time or not.
You just go online to Walmart.com and choose your time to pick up – fill out your list, pay, and pick it up at the right time! It’s been a total game changer for me.
I didn’t plan a pickup this week because we were away for a couple of days and I ended up going into HEB today (Friday) in the late morning. It was a madhouse – worse than a Saturday! – and I was ready to cry when I got done. What could have taken me 30 minutes – including driving time to the next town over – ended up taking me 90 minutes to a store 5 minutes from my house. I really have difficulty in stores like that.
It threw off my whole day. I usually write during the day while The Commodore is at work but it’s 10 PM now. I’m usually sound asleep. THAT’S how off the rails the day went!
Here’s How to Do It
As I mentioned before, go to Walmart.com and sign in or create an account.
You’ll see an icon for grocery shopping in the upper right-hand corner. It looks like a milk carton and maybe a tomato? Click it and you’ll get into the grocery ordering system.
Before we go any further I want to mention that you can save your order and come back to it. Super handy! And after you order and pay, you can come back for several hours to add to it in case you forgot something.
How to Reserve a Time For Walmart Grocery Curbside Pickup
The top of your page will look like this. You can reserve your time now or wait until you’re done. If you plan to do your list over several days it’s okay to wait.
Once you click to reserve your time you’ll see this:
And you can click on an available day and see the times:
It’s super quick to set your time up. It’s rare that you can do your list and reserve to pick up in less than four hours so be sure to allow ample time. Remember, too, that your time isn’t actually reserved until you place your order. If you choose a time and don’t complete your order inside a certain time (I don’t have that information) you could lose your spot.
Here are a few posts to give you some inspiration for your grocery list:
How To Start Shopping
This is a really easy part. Start with your list – you DO have one, right?
Just enter your item in the bar:
As you add an item to the bar, you’ll see a drop-down menu to choose from. Once you choose that, you can refine it by brand. You can see that I didn’t choose a brand because what I wanted popped up on the top row so I was able to add it quickly.
Once your order is complete, you can pay for it easily with a debit or credit card. I want to mention, too, that you pay at the time you order but it isn’t actually processed – it’s a hold – until you sign the hand-held machine at the store when you pick it up. That allows for them to be able to substitute if you’ve given them permission to do so. You’ll have that option during the ordering process.
If you allow them to choose your meat and fresh produce the prices you see are not the prices you pay due to differing weights. That’s another reason the funds are on hold. Your order may be slightly above or below depending on those changes.
Every single Walmart employee I’ve dealt with at the curbside grocery has been very friendly – and sometimes brings me extra little treats as a thank you. It’s really sweet!
Other chains charge for this service but Walmart does not. As with most chains that offer this service, every item is priced 3% higher – so you pay an extra $3 on $100 order. Our HEB charges a premium PLUS a $4.95 fee for the shopper service, so Walmart is a bargain.
Here is that Walmart.com link again in case you want to get $10 off of Walmart Grocery Curbside – and stay tuned for my post about what to get for your Keto diet using the service!
